Bad lighting

While at a wedding last week, I was chatting with the other photographers and videographer vendors about coloured lighting in reception halls and how annoying it is to colour balance skin tones to look natural again in post-production.

It reminded me of this gig I did a few days earlier. I was photographing an event where we also had some rather unflattering lights we had to battle against.

What I realized is that nowadays I just embrace the colour and if we look like smurfs, then we look like smurfs. BUT I still do dislike overhead lights. They create dark shadows around the eyes and under the nose that I always hate seeing.

All in all, this is just a rant to convince my wife that we should rip out all the lights on our ceilings at home and only use lamps. Pot lights might be practical but they look awful. Even when I'm on the couch eating cheetos in my underwear, I want to look my best.
