Vocal cord nodules?
I only told a few people in passing but in the latter half of last year, I was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules which causes me to have difficulty speaking and even breathing on particularly bad days.
I had heard about vocal cord nodules from the movie "Pitch Perfect" about singers getting it and then their careers being at risk - I didn't realise it was something a regular joe like me would develop. It made it particularly difficult because my job is directing people on camera and teaching in the classroom; both of these require a lot of use of my throat and I was losing my voice on an almost daily basis for a while.
I decided to temporarily stop attending networking events and calls and stick to the bare essentials (I EVEN STOPPED SINGING KARAOKE, DANG). This might be why you haven't seen or heard from me in a long time if you normally chat with me in networking groups.
While I'm not "healed", I've been doing a lot better thanks to advice from friends and family such as the amazing vocalist Cat Bernardi who gave me some really useful tips. So I'm slowly easing back into things, I'm going to walk before I run and save my voice for my working gig days but hopefully you'll start seeing me out and about again soon like at this event I attended last week!
Hope we will chat together soon and I can bug you with my incredibly irritating voice.
